about

Pamela Sexton, Mom to Chef Ouita Michel and Penny to her childhood friends, was our inspiration for Penny’s at Pomegranate.

Pam was an artist, writer, civic leader, and champion of wholesome, healthy eating. She and her husband Bob Sexton, founder of the Prichard Committee on Academic Excellence, lived right around the corner on Kentucky Ave., where this photo of mother and daughter was taken.

When we first learned that our friend Angela Beck was relocating Pomegranate to a new location on East Main St., and wanted us to open a casual garden café, we knew right away that it should be named for Pam.

Pam loved good food and interesting people, and had an incomparable sense of style, all of which burst into vibrant life at her art-filled home in the Woodland Park neighborhood.

We want our little spot at the corner of Clay and Main to be a bright and welcoming place. Where friends can meet for a bite of something tasty, catch up with a glass of wine, take home a treat for later.

As colorful, creative, carefree and full of life as Penny herself.
